Remote Access to NC Live

A single unique password is assigned to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Learning Resources Center for distribution to authorized patrons for access to all NC LIVE resources when connecting from outside the library.  NC LIVE distributes the password to institutions; and, in turn, the institutions distribute the password to authorized users.

To use NC LIVE, the user connects to the Web through their usual Internet Service Provider (ISP) and goes to the NC LIVE web page (http://www.nclive.org).  When prompted, the user chooses the appropriate library or institution from the drop-down menu and then inputs the password obtained from the library.

Guidelines

There may be up to a 48-hour waiting period for approval.  Notification will be by e-mail (unless otherwise noted) during regular business hours.  Exceptions: weekends, college breaks and holidays.

The LRC will verify each requestor to assure they are either a currently enrolled student or a currently employed faculty/staff.

Once verified, e-mail students can download NC LIVE directions.  Traditional students may pick up directions for access from home at our two physical pick-up points: North and South Campus LRC.

Importance of Confidentiality of Passwords

May I share my password with friends?

It is important that you not share your password with others.  NC LIVE's many resources are made available through a statewide subscription-called license-that allows only the registered users of participating libraries to have access to them.  Your library has a legal responsibility to make sure that everyone who receives a password for NC LIVE @ home is qualified to use its resources under the terms of these licenses.

What happens if I share the NC LIVE password with someone else?

Unauthorized sharing of passwords may result in any or all of the following:
  • You could lose your library privileges.
  • Your library's password might have to be changed, and this would inconvenience the other users.
  • The vendors from which NC LIVE obtains its resources might raise prices for access to their databases, which might mean fewer resources for you and your library's users.
  • Your library and all of its users might lose access to NC LIVE.  This could include access from the library itself as well as remote access.
