What is an Academic Advisor?

| An Academic Advisor provides information and guides students in making the most of their academic experience. Advisors are available to assist students in establishing and evaluating academic goals, understanding and navigating college policies and procedures, exploring their chosen academic program, and connecting students with campus resources. |

|
| Be prepared to meet with an Academic Advisor: |
|
|
Be on time for your scheduled appointment. |
|
|
Be an active learner by actively participating in the advising session. |
|
|
Come to your appointment prepared with questions and topics to discuss. |
|
|
Be knowledgeable about your program of study (major) and required courses. |
|
|
Become familiar with the course schedule for the upcoming semester . |
|
|
Familiarize yourself with the academic calendar and be aware of important dates and deadlines. |
|
|
Bring a copy of your placement test scores along with any academic information that can be used to assist the advising process. |
|
|
View the college catalog (available online) and be familiar with institutional policies and procedures. |
|
|
Clarify personal values and goals and provide the Academic Advisor with accurate information regarding your interest and abilities. |

Become familiar with WebAdvisor: |
|
WebAdvisor is a registration and advising tool for students and Academic Advisors. WebAdvisor is a system that allows RCCC students more access to valuable academic and personal information. For example, students will be able to view (and print) their schedules, check their GPA, and review their unofficial transcript. WebAdvisor supports and encourages students to engage in active learning and promotes academic success. Students are encouraged to read and study the WebAdvisor Tutorial for an immediate introduction to the system and the services it provides. |
