Adult
Basic Education (ABE) is a program of instruction designed
for adults who lack competence in reading, writing, speaking,
problem-solving, or computation at a level necessary to function
in society, on a job or in the family. Instruction
is free. Students must take a placement test prior
to enrollment. Upon completion of the ABE program, students
are encouraged to enroll in the GED program. |

Adults
who have not completed their high school education can prepare
for the General Education Development Test
(GED). This test
enables an adult to demonstrate his/her general education competencies
and be awarded a North Carolina Equivalency Diploma. The GED
diploma is nationally recognized and accepted as equivalent
to a traditional high school diploma. Instruction is provided,
at no cost to the student, in social studies, science,
literature, mathematics, and writing skills. Students needing
help in basic reading and math skills are placed in the ABE
lab prior to entering the GED class.
A testing fee of $7.50
is required. |
