2008 Fall Basic Fire Training School Notification (Rowan County)

The 2008 Spring Rowan Basic Fire Training School will start September 3, 2008 and end with a Graduation Ceremony on December 10, 2008.  This training will provide two opportunities for firefighters throughout Rowan and Cabarrus Counties.  Please see the attached schedule.

1.
The first opportunity will be for those who are seeking a career in the fire service.  During the 11week basic training, you will receive the following:
 
  • Complete FF I and II Certification
  • An opportunity to work a fire house shift at Salisbury Fire Department.
  • Live Burn Combat
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Certification
2.
The second opportunity will be for those who are seeking 1403 certification to satisfy state recommendations.  You will receive the following:
 
  • Complete FF I and II Certification in 1403 subjects
  • An opportunity to demonstrate evolution efficiency

Every individual will graduate upon successful completion of his or her chosen program.  Family and friends will be invited to the graduation ceremony and students will receive a certificate of completion.  Awards will be given to the “Top Gun” (class valedictorian), “Most Improved,” and “Most Physically Fit.”  Class pictures will also be available for purchase.  Some rules will apply and students will be expected to follow these rules for safety and respect to instructors and students.  They are as follows:

Due to recommendations in the NC Fire and Rescue Commission Juvenile Member Standard,1st Edition, which will be implemented January 1, 2008, only students 18 years of age and older will be permitted to participate in this Basic Fire School.
A $25 Student Fee will be required on the pre-registration day to cover the cost of shirts, awards, videos, accident insurance, and other class items.
A class shirt must be worn during each class with long blue or black trousers (neat blue jeans acceptable), and no tennis shoes.  Department uniforms are a sufficient alternative.
You must be sponsored by a FD and have a positive recommendation from the Chief or Training Officer.  (Some previous fire experience is highly recommended)
You must provide a transcript and receive instructor approval to be dismissed from any subject in which you already hold a certification.
Three unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the program.
You must come by RCCC’s Continuing Education Dept, Room 126 on North Campus in Salisbury on  August 27, 2008 between 1 & 8 pm for registration.
IFSTA Essentials Manual – 4th Edition is required and purchasing information will be available during registration.
