BLET:
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise. 

This program utilizes State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations. 

Detention Officer Certification Course:

This course should be taken by all persons seeking employment/certification as detention officers at local confinement facilities, county jails or regional/ district confinement facilities. The Detention Officer Certification Course has been developed as a means to train the student to function as an inexperienced detention officer upon successful completion of the course. This course is governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. The North Carolina State Detention Officer Certification exam will be administered on the last day of each class.

The day school consists of approximately 168 hours (5 weeks) of instruction. Day classes run Monday- Friday and start as early as 7:30 a.m. and end as late as 6:00 p.m. There will be some Saturday classes during the day school.

The night school consists of approximately 168 hours (10 weeks) of instruction. Night classes run Monday-Thursday and start as early at 5:30 p.m. and end as late as 11:00 p.m. There will also be some Saturday classes during the night school. Saturday classes usually meet 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Radar Operator Certification:

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Radar Operator Certification Course is a commission-mandated course governed by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. This forty (40) hour course of instruction is designed to provide you with the skills and  knowledge to proficiently perform those tasks essential to function as a radar operator. Only employed, sworn, certified law enforcement personnel shall be enrolled in the Radar Operator Certification Course.  Trainees shall not be certified as a radar operator until the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course has been successfully completed and probationary or general law enforcement certification has been granted
(NCAC T12 09B.0212(b)).

Classes Offered:
General Instructor:

This course should be taken by Criminal Justice personnel planning to teach in any course mandated by either the Criminal Justice Education Training Standards Commission or the Sheriff's Education Training Standards Commission.  Prior to teaching in any commission-mandated course, you must successfully complete this course and apply for and be granted certification as a probationary instructor. Also, personnel desiring to attend specialized Instructor Training courses such as Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Physical Fitness, Law Enforcement Driver Training, etc. must first successfully complete the General Instructor Training course. 

Course Goal: 
To provide the skills necessary to competently research, plan, prepare, present and evaluate a block of instruction in accordance with the system's approach.

Methodologies: 
This course employs discussion, programmed text, demonstration and practice.

In-Service Law Enforcement Training:

The In-service Law Enforcement Training program at RCCC provides numerous courses for the continuing education of law enforcement officers. Law enforce-ment training courses have been designed for upgrading both experienced and recently employed policemen and law enforcement officials. The development of these courses is based upon the needs and interests of the criminal justice and law enforcement community.

Telecommunicatior Certification:

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Telecommunicator Certification Course should be taken by all persons seeking employment/certification as telecommunicators in North Carolina. "Telecommunicator" means any person performing the responsibilities, either on a full-time, part-time, permanent or temporary basis, for communication functions to include but not limited to receiving calls or dispatching for emergency and law enforcement services. The course goal is to provide participants with entry-level knowledge and skills to practice as an emergency services telecommunicator. This course is governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. The North Carolina State Telecommunicators Certification exam will be administered on the last day of each class.

Criminal Justice Technology:

RCCC offers a two-year degree and certificate program for Criminal Justice Technology.
