Law Enforcement
Radar Operator Certification:
bullet
Attendance in all class sessions is required.
bullet Must pass written state exam with passing score 70%.
bullet If necessary, may retest within 90 days.
bullet Must pass performance test with 100% competency.
bullet If necessary, may retest within 90 days.

Upon successful completion of written exam and performance tests, must complete 16 hours of field practice with a certified operator exclusive of all other duties or show documentation of prior North Carolina radar operator certification.
bullet Must hold probationary or general law enforcement certification.
bullet After all requirements are met, a three-year certification will be awarded.
   
NOTE: Supplemental training must be completed on all radar units not included in initial certification T12 09B.0215(A).
RE-TEST PROCEDURES:
Obtain recommendation from original School Director.
Submit request within 30 days (SMI-6).
Date, time, location for retest will be assigned by the Standards Division via SMI-7 form.
Must complete the retest within 90 days.
Radar Operator Re-certification Course   (16 Hours) :
RECERTIFICATION PROCEDURES: Recertification is required every three years:
Attendance in all class sessions is required.
Must pass written exam with passing score 75%.
No retest allowed for written test and certification immediately terminates upon failure.
Must pass performance test with 100% competency required.
If necessary, may retest within 90 days.
If successful on written exam and the initial performance test, a three-year certification is awarded.
Supplemental training rule applies for additional units not included in recertification course.
Books and Supplies:
Due to recent updates, students attending Radar Certification, or Re-Certification should purchase the new Radar Operator Certification Student Manual/Supplement, available at RCCC, South Campus Bookstore, Concord, NC. Cost is $25.44 including tax. Students should bring radar unit and vehicle for use during testing and certification.
