| Position Description: |
The Nursing Faculty of the Nursing Education Program reports
directly to the Director of Nursing Education. Nursing faculty
are responsible for teaching activities in accordance with
NCBON Faculty Standard (21, NCAC 36.0318). Assigned responsibilities
are consistent with program needs, the faculty member’s
area of nursing expertise, and program and college policies/structure
as outlined in this document and the RCCC Policy and Procedure
Manual (Procedure 3.13).
Nursing faculty are expected to participate in program and
college activities, promote positive working relationships
with clinical and community agencies, and maintain compliance
with standards/criteria of approval/accreditation agencies.
Other responsibilities include maintaining current/knowledge
regarding nursing education and practice through self-evaluation
and professional development.
Faculty positions at RCCC for the nursing program may include
assignments for class, lab, and clinical in accordance with
the needs of the ADN program. |

Required: |
| |
Consistent with Educational
Standards of the NCBON (21 NCAC 36.0318), the nursing
faculty must meet the following requirements: |
| |
| 1. |
Hold a current, unrestricted
license to practice as a registered nurse in North
Carolina. |
| |
Hold an earned Master’s
Degree in Nursing or must be enrolled in a MSN program. |
| |
Have two calendar years
or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience
as a registered nurse. |
| |
Prior to or within the first
three years of employment, have preparation in teaching
and learning principles for adult education, including
curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation,
appropriate to assignment. This preparation may be
demonstrated by one of the following: |

a. |
Completion of 45 contact
hours of continuing education courses; |
| |
b. |
Completion of a certificate program
in nursing education; |
| |
c. |
Nine semester hours of education coursework; |
| |
d. |
National certification in nursing education;
or |
| |
e. |
Documentation of successful completion
of structured, individualized development activities
of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board.
Criteria for approval included content in the faculty
role within the curriculum implementation, objectives
to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified
student population and expectations of student and
faculty performance. |
| 5. |
By December 21, 2010, all
current faculty shall meet the requirements in Subparagraph
(e) (4) of this rule. |
| 6. |
Maintain competence in the
areas of assigned responsibility; and |
| 7. |
Have current knowledge of
nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed
practical nurse. |

Preferred: |
| |
Previous teaching experience in
a Nursing Program leading to RN licensure; currently
employed in a nursing program in the community college
setting; current clinical experience in a hospital setting. |

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is transforming itself

active learning with technology. It is expected that faculty
will use technology and multiple collaborative and active
learning strategies where appropriate in the presentation
of course content. |
