Business Networking Technology: Cisco Discovery 1 & 2 |
|
This course will prepare participants for entry level network and help desk support positions. The curriculum also prepares students to take the CCENT exam through Cisco systems.
In Cisco Discovery 1 (Networking for Home and Small Businesses) participants will gain knowledge of all the major concepts covered in the course which include: install and verify PC peripherals; select and install a Windows 0S; use hierarchical network management schemes; understand how classless IP numbers are developed and used; design and install a home and a small office wired and wireless network; and select the correct ISP for the networks designed by the students and connect to them.
Major concepts covered in Discovery 2 (Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP) include: creating help desk documentation; installing a Cisco ISR Device; use of the SDM Router and Security Configuration; planning for networking upgrades; switch configuration; and disaster recovery planning including running backups. |

| Entry Level HVAC Technician Certificates I & II |
|
The HVAC Technician Certificates will enable a student to secure an entry level position with a HVAC employer performing light commercial and residential installation, service, and repair. This segment of the HVAC field is always in need of good employees and students completing this program should be able to find employment, providing that the current economic climate improves. |

The Nurse Aide I program is designed to teach fundamental skills required of health care professionals. A U.S. high school diploma (or the equivalent) is required for this class. The length of the program is approximately 139 hours (16 weeks). After successful completion of this program, students are eligible to take the N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation Nurse Aide Registry Exam. The registry listing is required to be employed by hospitals, long-term facilities, and home health agencies. |

Upon completion of the Office Administration Certificate Program, graduates will be prepared for positions in administrative support careers. The program equips office professionals to respond to the demands of a dynamic computerized workplace. Students will complete courses designed to develop proficiency in the use of integrated software, oral and written communication, analysis and coordination of office duties and systems, and other support topics. Emphasis is placed on non-technical as well as technical skills. Graduates should qualify for employment in a variety of positions in business, government, and industry. |

Participants will gain the skills necessary to run a small office and gain the skills needed to become the “right-hand” person to the small business owner. The 30-hour certificate program trains participants in the vital areas potential employers need, especially for a growing small business. Courses included in the program are: Small office Management and Organization; Business Writing; Low Cost Marketing; Basic Accounting; Customer Service; and HR Basic Practices. |

Upon completion of the Tax Certificate Program, the graduate will be able to do basic bookkeeping, accounting, auditing and keeping of financial records. The certificate holder will be able to update and maintain accounting records, including those which calculate expenditures, receipts, accounts payable and receivable, and profit and loss. This program is designed to provide workers with entry level skills in positions ranging from bookkeepers who can maintain a company’s books to accounting clerks who handle specific tasks. Clerks make numerous computations each day and increasingly must be comfortable using computers to calculate and record data. |

GTAW and SMAW Pipe Welding Certificate |
|
| Upon completion of Pipe Welding Certificate, students will be proficient in basic shop safety, safety in oxyacetylene cutting, safety in grinding and beveling pipe. They will have knowledge of blueprint reading and cutting processes used in the welding industry. The student will be at entry level in SMAW open root groove 6” Sch-40 pipe using E-6010 root and E-7018 filler in 2G, 5G, and 6G positions; and with GTAW Open root groove Sch-40 pipe using E-70S-2 root filler in 2G, 5G and 6G positions. They will also be subjected to 6” Sch-80 pipe. |

Upon completion of the Wiring and NEC Certificate the graduate should be able to enter the field of Electrical Installation (Construction) in both the Residential and Industrial/Commercial areas. The certificate holder will be able to properly construct branch circuits for lighting and
receptacle circuits, size conductors and over current protection for special circuits, feeders and
services, bend and install conduit, properly size pull, junction, and outlet boxes, install start
/stop stations, remote pilot devices for motor control, install and connect motor starters and
