Enrolled students, staff,
and faculty are provided open access to Internet and non-Internet computers
in the Information Commons, a staffed facility where students can work on Traditional
and Distance Education course assignments. Students will be assigned
a specific workstation based upon their application software need. Course-specific
tutorials may be available. Access is provided on a first come, first
served basis. |

Restrictions:
Information Commons strictly prohibits game playing, downloading of AOL, Yahoo, MSN Chat, and visiting sites or receiving documents with sexually offensive material that violates student procedure 7.25 and/or employee procedure 1.10 of the RCCC Procedures Manual. No children are allowed in the computer lab. Also prohibited is the attaching of any hardware devices or software on the Information Commons equipment for the purpose of copying software.
Students are not provided with software for home use. If needed, students, faculty, and staff may check with the RCCC Bookstore.
Enrolled students, faculty, and staff are required to bring portable storage (i.e. flash drive) to the Information Commons to save their data and make backups. All diskettes should be labeled with the student's course prefix, number, and section number with the instructor's name and the student's name to identify diskettes that may be placed in the Information Commons Lost and Found.
Students are expected to follow the same guidelines in the Information Commons’s as in the academic classrooms for cell phone use. The cell phone should be on vibrate and the student should go into the hallway or other appropriate location to use the cell phone. |

Classroom Use of the Information Commons:
Curriculum instructors must register in advance with the Information Commons by emailing the Information Commons at or calling the appropriate Information Commons to reserve computers. The appropriate instructor must accompany the students and provide the instruction for the students during this period. If a LCD projector and/or multimedia cart is needed, the instructor must contact the RCCC Media Services Department to reserve equipment. The Information Commons staff may be available to supplement the instruction provided by the instructor, if requested at the time of the reservation. |
