Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Receives Biotechnology Grant

SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) has received a grant of $61,109 from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. RCCC will use the grant to inform and train local guidance and career counselors regarding future biotechnology job opportunities.

RCCC will develop and conduct “Train the Counselor” workshops, focusing on advising for biotechnology career paths. Counselors from community colleges, local four-year colleges, public high schools and middle schools, and area JobLink Career Centers will learn how to advise students and clients for preparation in biotechnology-related careers in the greater Charlotte Region.

Workshop development will include conducting detailed assessments to ensure quality and relevance to local workforce needs.

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center is the world’s first government-sponsored organization dedicated to developing the biotechnology industry. Established by the North Carolina General Assembly and based in the Research Triangle Park, the Biotechnology Center’s mission is to provide long-term economic and societal benefits to North Carolina through support of biotechnology research, business and education statewide. Since 1984, the Biotechnology Center has invested more than $187 million in state monies to develop biotechnology in North Carolina.
