RCCC Announces 2007
Teaching Excellence Awards Recipients
 

            SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is honoring 10 faculty members with 2007 Excellence in Teaching Awards.

            Emily Ward, R.N., an instructor in RCCC’s associate degree nursing program, has received the Outstanding Excellence in Teaching Award. She joined the RCCC faculty in 2003. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Guilford Technical Community College and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at Gardner-Webb University.
Ward is also RCCC’s nominee for the 2007 North Carolina Community College System-R.J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award.

            Receiving other Excellence in Teaching Awards with special distinction are:

    1. Brenda Brady, criminal justice – for support to the mission of the college;
    2. Donna Ginn, English – for active learning practices; and
    3. Frank Merrell, construction management, fire protection and industrial engineering technologies – for use of technology in instruction.

            The remaining Excellence in Teaching Award winners are:

    1. Charles Albrecht, business administration;
    2. Charlotte Grossman, mathematics;
    3. Denise Madrazo, life sciences;
    4. Greg Sember, political science;
    5. Betty Stack, English; and
    6. Kathy Vestal, foreign languages.

            “RCCC is very fortunate to have a dedicated and talented faculty,” said Tim Foley, RCCC vice president of academic programs. “Most importantly, RCCC’s students are fortunate to have at their disposal a group of dedicated and talented professionals committed to teaching and making learning happen.

            “The individuals selected this year as recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Awards are examples of the overall excellence of RCCC’s faculty, which is second to none,” Foley added.
