RCCC Rotaract Club Earns Award

RCCC Rotaract Club Earns Award            CONCORD, N.C. — The Rotaract Club of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) has received a prestigious Presidential Citation Award for 2006-07 from Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Cabarrus County.

The Presidential Citation recognizes Rotaract Clubs for undertaking worthy service projects and community service. The RCCC club sponsors an annual food drive and coordinates the Operation Christmas Child program at the college each year. The RCCC club also has joined the Cabarrus County Rotary Club in its efforts to establish a much needed medical center in Alexandria, Romania. The medical center focuses primarily on the needs of children and expectant mothers.

Rotaract Club president Sam Poteat; club advisor Garland Fulp, RCCC business administration program head; and RCCC vice president Linda Earnhardt accepted the award at the Cabarrus Rotary’s Sept. 27 meeting. Cabarrus Rotarian Mike Hurlbert presented the award.

RCCC’s Rotaract Club has 20 to 30 members annually. During this past summer, Fulp and former club president Amanda Howard traveled to Romania to deliver sonogram equipment for the medical center. Club members hope to make a return trip to see the equipment in use in 2008.

Rotaract is an international service-oriented organization founded by Rotary International. Rotaract Clubs work under the guidance of a local Rotary Club to provide community service and support worthy causes. With more than 170,000 members worldwide, Rotaract draws persons from the community at large and are often formed to promote positive extra-curricular activities for college students.

Rotaract Clubs seek to develop professional and leadership skills and emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on the recognition of the worth of each individual. For more information about RCCC’s Rotaract Club, contact Fulp at 704-216-3770.
