RCCC Announces Upcoming 'BioWork' Class

           SALISBURY, N.C. -- Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) is accepting students for an upcoming class of the "BioWork" biotechnology course. The class begins Feb. 4 and meets until May 26, on Mondays and Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until noon.

            RCCC encourages interested adults to contact the college as soon as possible to pre-register and schedule a career readiness assessment. Both are required to take the BioWork course. The course registration fee is $65.

            BioWork is a 132-hour introductory course bringing together the basics of manufacturing technology and the fundamentals of science. BioWork gives students a broad overview of the biotechnology industry.

            The BioWork course includes the following topics or modules:

1. Your New Job: Orientation to process manufacturing industries;
2. Working Safely: Basic safety attitudes and approaches;
3. Building Quality into the Product: Say what you do and do what you say and current "Good Manufacturing Practices" (cGMP);
4. Measuring Process Variables: The metric system and variables critical to controlling processes;
5. Learning the Nuts and Bolts: Process manufacturing equipment, systems, and plant utilities;
6. Maintaining Sterile Processes: Working in aseptic manufacturing environments; and
7. Communication, Teamwork and Problem Solving: Success requires the ability to communicate and work in teams to solve problems.

           Students must have a high school diploma or GED, basic computer literacy and go through a career readiness assessment.
RCCC will offer the BioWork course at its Cabarrus Business & Technology Center, 660 Concord Parkway North in Concord.

           Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is a comprehensive, community-based institution of higher learning, serving the citizens of Rowan and Cabarrus Counties.
