RCCC Offers Information Session
For BioWork Course

 

          CONCORD, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will host an information session Aug. 13 for persons interested in taking the BioWork course and learning more about career opportunities in the field of biotechnology.

           The college encourages prospective students to attend the information session before registering for the next BioWork course, which begins Aug. 25.

           RCCC will offer the Aug. 13 information session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in room 9255 of RCCC's Cabarrus Business & Technology Center, located at 660 Concord Parkway North in Concord.

           The session will give prospective students an overview of the BioWork course and inform them of the course prerequisites. These include a high school diploma or GED, basic computer literacy and career readiness certification (CRC). The information sessions will explain how persons without the CRC credential can schedule a career-readiness assessment through RCCC's R3 Center in Kannapolis.

          BioWork is a 132-hour introductory course bringing together the basics of manufacturing technology and the fundamentals of science. BioWork gives students a broad overview of the biotechnology industry.

           The BioWork course includes the following topics or modules:

Your New Job: Orientation to process manufacturing industries;
 
bullet
Working Safely: Basic safety attitudes and approaches;
 
bullet
Building Quality into the Product: Say what you do and do what you say and current "Good Manufacturing Practices" (cGMP);
 
bullet
Measuring Process Variables: The metric system and variables critical to controlling processes;
 
bullet
Learning the Nuts and Bolts: Process manufacturing equipment, systems, and plant utilities;
 
bullet
Maintaining Sterile Processes: Working in aseptic manufacturing environments;
 
bullet
Communication, Teamwork and Problem Solving: Success requires the ability to communicate and work in teams to solve problems; and
 
bullet
Job Seeking Skills.

          RCCC offers the BioWork course through its Continuing Education department. For more information about the class starting Aug. 25, call 704-216-3542 or send an e-mail to coned@rowanbabarrus.edu. The class will meet until Dec. 17, on Mondays and Wednesday, from 6 to 10 p.m., at the Cabarrus Business & Technology Center.
