SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College students and faculty members attended the 2008 North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists Annual Conference, held Oct. 16-18 in Concord. RCCC faculty members served as conference moderators and organizers. Frankie Lyons, RCCC radiography program head, worked as the educators chair for the event. Terry Chapman, RCCC dean of health and public services technologies, provided a session presentation titled: "What's Your VARK?" The session was interactive and designed to help students determine their personal learning style. Four, second-year students from RCCC competed in the Student Tech Bowl. Representing RCCC in the statewide competition were Jason Camp, Melissa Key, Chelsea Moore and Chrissy O'Leary. Kelly McCowan, an RCCC radiography clinical instructor, received a 2008 Imaging Professional of Excellence Award at the conference honors luncheon. The award recognizes North Carolina imaging professionals who have made a significant contribution to the profession and in the lives of their patients, peers and community. RCCC's Radiography program prepares students to be radiographers, skilled health care professionals who use radiation and highly technical medical equipment to produce images of the human body. Program course work includes clinical rotations to area health care facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology, and radiobiology. Graduates are employed in hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, medical laboratories, government agencies and in industry positions.
