Final Art Show Winners Announced

          SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has announced the People's Choice Award winners of its 2008 Autumn Exhibition of student art work.

           Hosted and supported by the Rowan Arts Council, all pieces in the Autumn Exhibition were on display Oct. 31 through Nov. 25, at the Rail Walk Studios and Gallery, in Salisbury. Everyone who viewed the exhibited works was able to cast a vote for the People's Choice Award.

           The voting ended in a four-way tie. Receiving People's Choice Awards are:

  • Barbara Benton of Salisbury;
  • Hnu Lo of Salisbury;
  • Ellen Phillips of Salisbury; and
  • Jessica Shoemaker of Salisbury.

          Completing its third year, the Autumn Exhibition allows students to show their work in a professional setting. RCCC art instructors Jonathan Church and Jenn Gardner encourage all interested students to enter. Growing each year since its inception, the 2008 exhibition featured the work of more than 25 RCCC student artists.

           The exhibition was sponsored by the Rowan Arts Council with assistance from the North Carolina Arts Council, Rowan Investment Co., Rail Walk Studios and Gallery and the National Endowment for the Arts. Lin Barnhardt served as exhibition judge.

          RCCC offers a wide range of arts courses, including drawing, painting, watercolor, photography, digital photography, design, art appreciation, and a survey of American art. The college will offer a new associate-degree program in fine arts (AFA) beginning in fall 2009. For more information and course descriptions, see the RCCC website - www.rowancabarrus.edu.
