RCCC Board Approves Selection of Two Deans, HR Director

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of persons to fill three, key leadership positions at the college.

During its May meeting, held today at the North Carolina Research Campus, the board approved the hiring of Martha (Marcy) H. Corjay as dean of biotechnology, science and math; Yolanda S. Wilson as dean of liberal arts and general education; and Tina M. Haynes as human resources director.

Corjay originally joined RCCC's faculty in June 2008 as head of RCCC's associate-degree program in biotechnology. A resident of Huntersville, N.C., Corjay came to RCCC after serving two years as a biology instructor at Bluegrass Community & Technical College in Lexington, Ky. Prior to that, she taught as a visiting biology faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University and as an associate professor in the department of cardiology at the University of Virginia.

Her other experience includes principal research scientist and senior research scientist with DuPont Pharmaceuticals Co., staff fellow with the National Institutes of Health-NINDS, and graduate research assistant at the University of Virginia. She has 23 scientific peer-reviewed publications and holds a U.S. patent from her work at DuPont. She has more than 10 years of research and development experience in biotechnology industry and five years of college-level teaching experience.

Corjay earned a bachelor's degree in biology from George Mason University, graduating with highest distinction. She holds a master's degree in biology/genetics and a Ph.D. in biology/molecular physiology from the University of Virginia.

Wilson comes to RCCC from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C., where she is assistant director of developmental education and coordinator of the college's quality enhancement program. She also has served as a program coordinator and instructor of developmental reading and English at Mitchell.

Her other experience includes department chair and consultant at the Durham School of the Arts and English instructor at Vance-Granville Community College. A resident of Concord, Wilson earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English at the University of Maryland at College Park. She holds a developmental education specialist certificate from the Kellogg Institute at Appalachian State University. She is currently completing doctoral studies in higher education administration at UNC Charlotte.
Haynes currently works as a human resources consultant and is a certified HR professional by the Society of Human Resource Management.

Haynes has spent much of her career with Wachovia, where she served in many positions, including finance division senior vice president and efficiency improvement program officer; human resources division senior vice president and director of human resources; senior vice president and manager of HR eBusiness change management and employee self service; and human resources operations team leader and payroll conversion leader.

Her employment prior to Wachovia included Humana Health Plans as a customer service manager of strategic services and production operations manager. A resident of Kannapolis, Haynes earned a bachelor's degree in education from Virginia Wesleyan College and a master's degree in administration from Central Michigan University.

"Prior to our reorganization, RCCC devoted one dean to the arts and sciences and one to biotechnology," said RCCC President Carol Spalding. "Under the new organization we will unify the sciences, math and biotech areas to support one another. The Liberal Arts and General Education Dean will help us in our commitment to degree completion in all our degree programs and augment our developmental education program. Both of our new deans bring outstanding experience that will complement our college's new direction.

The new Director of HR is from industry and brings a wealth of experience and years of professional training to the college. She will augment our existing small department and help us move forward as we implement more technology into our practices," Spalding added.
