Computer Skills Placement Test (CSPT)
General Information:

The Computer Skills Assessment is a series of short placement tests developed by SkillCheck.com that let you and RCCC work together to help you succeed in your educational program. Computer Skills helps you identify your strengths as well as the knowledge and skills you will need in order to succeed in specified content areas. Computer Skills also helps RCCC use this information to guide you toward classes that strengthen and build logically upon your current knowledge and skills.

All students applying for a program at RCCC are required to take the Computer Skills Assessment.
 
Exemption:
If you have a college level computer course with a "C" or higher grade, you may be exempt from this test We must have your transcript from the institution awarding those credits in order for you to be considered for exemption or, if you have taken the Technical Proficiency Exam (TPE) and achieved a successful score, you are exempt from the Computer Skills Test.
   
Test Schedule:
Weekly sessions are available on North and South Campuses on Mondays at 9am or 6pm. You must be scheduled to attend a testing session.

If you require special arrangements for testing, please notify Student Services when you are assigned a test date. Proper documentation is required.

   
Test Information:
bullet How does Computer Skills work?
Computer Skills scores indicate areas in which you are strong and  areas you may need help with in the area of basic computer skills and typing. Computer Skills can identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt your educational progress, giving you the opportunity to prepare more effectively for needed courses.
bullet Is the Computer Skills Assessment timed?
Yes the Computer Skills Placement 1 is a 35 minute timed test. The Typing test is comprised of three, 2-minute timed tests, and the best score of the three is kept.
bullet What if I fail Computer Skills?

You cannot fail! It is a placement test and not a pass/fail test. Your scores will indicate where your strengths and needs are for course placement.

bullet May I re-test on Computer Skills?

Limited re-testing is allowed in specific re-test sessions. Contact Student Services for re-test schedule information.
